An Unforgettable Day of Football, Culture, and Team Spirit
Over the weekend, Mako Sharks Football Academy proudly participated in the 2025 Tauranga Junior World Cup, one of New Zealand’s most vibrant and inclusive youth football festivals. Held at the beautiful Fergusson Park in Tauranga, this annual event brings together teams from across the country in a celebration of football, friendship, and global cultures.
The tournament had a unique international flavour, with each team representing a different country. Our players proudly took the field representing:
-
U9 – China
-
U10 – Netherlands
-
U11 – Japan
Players, coaches, and parents embraced the spirit of the event, with many showing up in themed outfits and team colours. It was more than just football — it was a celebration of diversity and community.
The tournament format allowed for plenty of football, learning, and fun, with all games wrapped up by early afternoon. Despite the competitive environment, our teams demonstrated great sportsmanship, teamwork, and resilience on and off the pitch.
We are proud of how our players carried themselves throughout the day — from their performances on the field to their camaraderie and positive attitude off it. Events like these are what youth football is all about: development, shared experiences, and lasting memories.
A huge thank you to all the parents who supported the teams throughout the day, and to the tournament organisers for creating such a welcoming and well-run event.
We’re already looking forward to coming back next year — stronger, wiser, and even more united.
